Privacy policy
This policy explains what the Guardian app and this website do with information. We wrote it to be read. If anything is unclear, email hello@guardian-app.xyz.
Who we are
Guardian is made by Standard Consumer Software LLC (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the information described here. You reach us at hello@guardian-app.xyz.
The short version. Guardian has no accounts and no ads. We do not sell information about you and we do not track you across other apps or websites. The app uses your location to show incidents near you, and that is the main thing we handle.
What the app collects, and why
- Your location. If you allow it, the app uses your precise location while you are using it, to show incidents and alerts near you. To get those incidents, the app sends coordinates to our servers. Those coordinates are used to answer the request and are not linked to your name, because there is no account.
- Places you save. The names you give them (such as “Home” or “Mum’s”) are stored on your phone only. To check what has been reported near a place, the app sends that place’s coordinates, but not its name.
- Addresses you search. When you scan or search an address, the app sends the coordinates of that address to our servers to return what has been reported around it.
- A random device ID and the app version. The app creates a random ID on your phone and sends it with its requests, together with the app version. We use these to keep the service running and to limit abuse. It is not your Apple ID, your name or your advertising ID.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe, Apple takes the payment and we never see your card details. We use a service called RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives purchase information and an anonymous app user ID for that purpose.
- Notifications. If you allow them, Guardian shows alerts on your phone. You can turn them off in iPhone Settings at any time.
What this version does not use
The app can ask for the camera, microphone and speech recognition for a feature that lets you go live with video. That feature is switched off in this version, so none of these are used. If we release a feature that uses them, we will ask your permission first and update this policy.
We use no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools in the app.
Where incident information comes from
The reports shown in Guardian come from publicly available data. They are not information about you.
Who we share information with
- Apple, which provides the App Store, payments and the maps in the app.
- RevenueCat, which manages subscription status for us.
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers, who process requests on our behalf.
- Authorities, only if the law requires it.
We do not sell personal information. Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the protections the law allows, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
Our legal basis (UK GDPR)
- Your consent for using your location. You give it through the iPhone permission, and you can withdraw it in Settings.
- Providing the service you asked for, for subscriptions and for the requests the app makes.
- Our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and working, and preventing abuse.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as we need it to run and secure the service, and to meet legal obligations. Information stored on your phone, including your saved places, stays there until you delete the app or the places.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to give you a copy. Because Guardian has no accounts, we may need your device ID to find anything, and for most people there will be very little to find. To make a request, email hello@guardian-app.xyz. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Guardian is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where needed, tell you in the app.
